Community School Model

Korematsu Discovery Academy is proud to be part of Oakland Unified School District’s Full-Service Community Schools model. This model connects academics with health, social services, and family engagement so every student and family can get the support they need.

Community Schools bring together local partners and resources to make each campus a hub of learning and opportunity. This approach helps schools use the strengths of students, staff, and families to remove barriers and build stronger communities.

In 2011, Oakland Unified became the first district in the nation to commit to being a Full-Service Community Schools District. Today, OUSD continues that work by partnering with local organizations to support every student’s success in school and in life.
