KDA is a NOAA Ocean Guardian School
We have been awarded the NOAA Ocean Guardian School Grant for 5 years, so students can learn about and protect our local environment.
Better World Week with EL Ed
KDA was chosen as 1 of 2 schools nationally by EL Education for a mini documentary highlighting our project-based learning for Better World Week.

Korematsu Discovery Academy is a TK–5 school where students grow through strong academics, creative learning, and daily support. We focus on reading, writing, math, and social-emotional growth in a safe and caring environment. Our staff works closely with families to help each child build confidence and curiosity. As part of OUSD, we support students as they learn, lead, and thrive.

OUSD Celebrates Juneteenth: Honoring Oakland’s Legacy of Freedom
As we celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, we honor a day of profound meaning for our city and nation. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the date when freedom was finally granted to more than 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas, the final people still in shackles, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. That proclamation freed more than 3.5 million enslaved African Americans who were held in rebel states in the American South.
